I had my local tow truck operation pick up my 62 Flareside from a shop that did some work for me. They loaded the truck on a flatbed backwards, with the cab facing to the rear of the tow truck. I received a call from the company saying the rear window, which I had installed a few months ago with a new seal, had exploded into small pieces into the cab of the truck. He said glass was everywhere and since it was raining, water had also entered the cab. They taped the window up and took it to their shop where the Manager said they will replace the window at no charge and also clean the truck up. Great customer service but I keep wondering why it shattered. Maybe the 70 MPH hitting the rear window from outside in caused the seal to fail but the driver said the seal was still in the window frame. I though maybe a rock hit the window at speed and shattered it. Anyone ever see this happen before? Any ideas as to why it happened?
glass is a funny bitch. I've seen them crack for absolutely no reason, I've seen a mechanic try and break a drivers window with a tire iron and not be able to crack it. I've seen my wife swat a fly on the windshield with her hand and smash the windshield.
Best to ignore it, replace it, pour a nice Jim Beam Blue, neat, and sip.
My brother was going over a bridge and a rock hit the windshield and shattered the windshield. He had to stick his head out the door glass to see and finally get off the bridge. I was driving down the road and had a rock hit my windshield and within 2 seconds had another hit. There was a gravel truck way ahead of me but those rocks just had the right bounce. Talk about stupid luck. Drove right away to get it replaced. It's just one of those things that happen.
