Towing Capacity Question (Ford Edge)
Long story short, Enterprise Rental took my moving truck back due to government emergency reasons. So I'm going back to what I used to move when I fell on hard times, Hot Tubs and Safes.
Does anyone have any advice? its a 2010 Ford Edge Limited.
I am not very knowledgeable when it comes to towing cap/payload etc...
Back in 2012 I drove the truck and trailer that you see in the image. Didn't have to worry about the load too much since we always were way way under. But with the ford edge, I need to be more careful since its not a diesel like that GMC.
Unfortunately it's the most affordable way to continue right now. Everyone is out of a job, customer calls dropped by 80-90%. My employees all decided to stay home as well.
During these uncertain times, I cant risk renting a truck. I can rent a trailer for now on the days that we can pile up jobs. gotta make customers work on OUR schedule now
All over theres a confusing message of 2000lbs max and 3500lbs max for this year and vehicle. A link says 2000 towing capacity with a 1100lbs payload capacity? Does this mean the trailer needs to weight 900lbs max if i will need to tow 1100lbs? Or does this mean I can pull a combined weight of 3100lbs?
Specs are 265 HP
250 Torque

This is what i used back in 2012/13
This is what I'm thinking about using now
Whats the difference between both 2010 ford edge vehicles. both are 3.5 v6. What consist of having a "Towing Package"?
Any advice?
Hot tubs weigh 600-2000lbs
Safes weigh a lot more, but I can pick and chose which jobs to take and keep it under whatever weight limit my vehicle limits us to
Thanks for your time
It looks like if you don't have the tow package you can tow 2000 pounds. It doesn't matter if it is a 1000 pound trailer with a 1000 pound load, or a 1999 pound trailer with a 1 pound load. 2000 pounds it 2000 pounds.
Having said that, I have some experience in how tow ratings are determined. They are set so that the vehicle can climb a fairly steep and long grade at low speed in a very hot ambient temperature. If the conditions you are operating in are less than that you most likely won't have problems if you use the tow package limits even if you don't have a tow package.

It came with a tow hitch when they bought it. Would you happen to know how I can go about finding out if it has a tow package? A weird question I'd like to avoid asking her parents
You might be able to find what was included in the tow package for a 2010 Ford Edge with an online search.
