Anybody mind throwing out a parts recommendation for an auto to manual swap in a 59?
Installing a 351w. Stock bottom end (refreshed) with AFR heads and Edelbrock air gap intake. Holley sniper carb. Looking like 380 tq and around 420 horses. Lunati roller cam. 221/229 at .050, 112* lobe.
I received a quote for $4600 from a tko supplier.
Before I drop my first born on a more enjoyable ride experience, I’d like some advice on the matter.
Moderately inexpensive.....
zf 5 with a short shift. Hydraulic throw out bearing. New driveshaft/bell housing.... various odds and ends
sounds like a headache?
t5 - would require s10 rear housing. Mechanical gear relocation or gps speedo. A number of friends use them down at the drag and swear by the world class.
unreliable?
m5odr2 - same as zf 5 - heard nothing but negative reviews.
im not going to beat the **** out of the truck. It’s a duly driver, but I’ll get on it from time to time like anyone would with 400 horses. Maybe 1-2 times a year at the track.
Would the stock hydraulics operate a hydraulic throw out bearing? Do guys add the slave cylinder versus the hydraulic bearing? I went into the thread search bar up top and tried searching T5 and a few other transmissions, but no dice. I went through 20 pages with no information.

I thought about the hydraulic throwout bearing from a mid 90’s F150 with my stock master cylinder but could not find documentation to verify the throwout bearing fluid acceptance at full stroke. Would hate to pop a $150 throwout bearing if the acceptance was too small for the pedal travel. In the end decided to keep the slave cylinder setup because I know its matched and only $25 for a new one. Let us know were this goes for you!
All 1957/60's have a hydraulic clutch. Original parts are getting very hard to find NOS
I actually found a set of pedals for $200. My concern is making the purchase and the stock master cylinder lacking the power to operate the throwout. I'd be interested in doing a slave instead of the throwout. I'll do more research down this avenue, because kits are common online. The master cylinder for 57 - 60 seems reasonably priced and as previously mentioned, the slaves are cheap.
Will the brake/clutch pedal assembly bolt right up or will I need to do some drilling/retrofitting?
