Auto to Manual
I have a lead on a low-mileage, reasonably cheap replacement from a later year.
I have two questions...
1. Is the balance of the 94-97 5.8L's the same as the 89-93 5.8L's? (i.e. bolt on my flywheel and drop in)
and
2. Will a 5.8L out of an automatic "mate" with a ZF manual trans without machining the crank snout, et al? I've run into situations in the past where the necessary pilot bearing didn't have a place to go when going from auto to manual, though I can't remember if that was the case with Ford or Dodge. My brain doesn't seem to want to work today. Or yesterday.

Thanks in advance!
The ZF transmissions have a intregal(how do you spell that) bell housing, so it would have to come off a 4.9/5.0/5.8 donor.
I converted my 302 from AOD to M50D and am very pleased.
The truck is already a manual from the factory, ZF 5sp, etc.
It's just that the engine I may be replacing the factory engine with is coming out of an automatic truck, a slightly later year, and I was concerned there might not be a pilot bearing hole
I did an E4od to ZF swap and the cranks were the same on both 5.8's.
I used a 6003 sealed ball bearing instead of the sorry Ford designed
pilot bearing. YMMV in that one. ;)
