I have a 99 PS. I live in Northern California where it really don’t get to cold. Right now over night is 50deg. When I leave for work it’s prolly 60+.
Well I have a long and slow cranking issue.sometimes holding the throttle down helps. Once started it has the white exhaust for a second. I drive to work 10min then leave from work 4hour later for lunch and it does it again even though it’s 70deg out. Just not as bad. Batteries are about a year old I’ve redone all the battery cables and grounds.
I dont want to throw parts at it and really don’t know where to start testing.
The first place to look would be the glow plug system. Ohm out the glow plugs through the UVCH and verify that the GPCM is working properly. Do you have a scanner? I think you can check your glow plugs with a scanner with a GPCM.

You'll need an OBDII adapter, bluetooth works for Android only and WIFI works with anything that has WIFI. I use the VeePeak, available on Amazon and fleabay and ForScan is cheap for iOS and free for Android. These are good tools to have and you'll need them in the future.
However, I am not familiar with the GPCM and someone else will have to tell you if this setup will test that.
