Cold start Survey

I have been reading a lot of cold start issues, One thing I have noticed is that it seems to be on 7.3's with a GPR.

Starting a survey here to get an idea if this seems to be accurate. Please post the temp you started your truck at.

I will have issues, I do every year, I always need to go in and clean my connections at the battery, at least twice a year. But as of 22* so far this year, not yet.

I am still on the OEM Motorcraft batteries that were installed in '02. I have yet to have any cold start issues.......as long as I take the tuner off of No-Start before I try.

Truck is almost 9 years old, replaced GP's this fall and new GPR (Stancor) last spring. No cold start issues anymore.

And add to the mix, 5w-40 Synth oil and squeaky clean battery terminals...

Trying to figure out if the GPCM is less finicky then the the GPR. I have the GPCM and have had no issues down 12 degrees F

I've replace all my glow plugs and the relay. That helped quite a bit, but switching to synthetic was probably the biggest thing to help get the old girl started. Now it starts up and purrs, compared to some romping and sputtering and smoking.

my trucks p.o. used starting fluid all the damn time so all my glow plugs barely work(i have not tested which ones are dead and what not), my gpr died so i switched it with my aih relay for the time being and seems to be working, still hates to start when its cold.

My GPR just died, and my truck doesnt like to fire if its much cooler than 40 degrees.

Switch with AIH relay,... ??? just dont use the relay for AIH or do you add the GP wire to that relay?

Thanks

Mine started just fine this morning not plugged in and it was 15* out this morning. Not near as cold as Bend but pretty cool for this side of the hill.

Thumbs up Cold Start

Stancor GPR, T6 oil, clean battery terminals. Parked outside.

20 below and plugged in and it started like it was summer out.

1999 E350, 165K miles.
