I had to add fluid allready at 2200 miles due to the countdown alarm. I added 2.5 gallons which netted me another 300 miles it looks like.
Something must be wrong when I see the attached info while still showing over a half of a tank. I used plenty on my old 17 6.7 but not this much.
Anyone have any thoughts or similarities on their 2020?
?
I have approx 1500 miles towing so far. Getting between 9-12 mpg while towing on long trips. The countdown shouldn't start while still showing over half full in my opinion...
A.) The Gauge is terrible B.) I wouldn't necessarily trust the calculated "miles" value and C.) Towing literally "EATS" DEF! I had been daily driving my F-450 for almost 2 months before our 33 day, 3200 mile camping trip, carrying our 5600lb truck camper, and the gauge sat at 1/2 the entire time. I added 5 gals when we were ready to leave, which brought it to "Full"! When we got from MA to Daytona, FL (~1600 miles) I had to put 7.5 gals in the tank (and it took every drop). My 2019 doesn't show the calculated "Miles to Empty" - either that or it's because it's only an XLT! That's my take on the situation!
I kept track of every gallon of DEF I put in my 2012 F250, don't have any miles to speak of yet on my 2020.
Towing a 10K boat and trailer, i would get about 10.5 MPG, and would burn a gallon of DEF every 700-800 miles.
Without a trailer, I burned about 1 gallon every 1200 miles, sometimes a bit better.
Over 80K miles, keeping track of all of it, fuel and DEF, my usage rate was 1.26%.
My understanding is that the big over the road trucks use more like 3%.
You could run the numbers and see where you fall in the range, but you do need to start with a verified full tank and then keep track from there, you can't rely on the dealer having really filled it, etc.
All the Def bottles come with a spout that is supposed to stop the flow when it is full, the Ford one seems to work better than most. It comes with the bottle of Def you buy from Ford.
i use the blue Def 2.5 gallon jug, it has a spout as well, if you believe it is full when it stops, it works fine. If you are like me and just try and see if it will take more by tilting the bottle back, which lets air back into the bottle, it will overflow and you have to rinse it off.
Well, I will fill it up and see how much it takes to verify the gauge somewhat. In the 70k miles on my last one I could get 3500-6000 miles on a tank. I assumed this one would be simular...
