Someone may have already done this on the forum but i hadn’t seen it )
Installed a waterproof push button switch that turns the tailgate lock on or off. Works great and when I am wanting the truck locked but not the tailgate I just push the button and disengage the lock. Another push of the button turns the lock back on.
I agree, nice work. What am I missing though? When my truck is locked and I need access to the bed, I just unlock the truck which unlocks the tailgate, then lock the truck, which locks the tailgate when finished......... If I'm missing the obvious, blame it on isolation LOL
Im guessing his truck doesn't have a OE power lock tail gate ??
This has got to be it. Otherwise, I too am missing something. I did install the McGard lock yesterday though. Too much theft in DFW broad daylight. It won’t stop the thieves but it may slow them down...

thanks
yes I have the automatic locking tailgate and I have found it to be a pain in certain situations
some guys have just unplugged the solenoid, but then the tailgate never locks.
i just wanted a little controll, so say when I’m working or camping and want the cab locked but still want free access to the bed using the tailgate.
hope that makes sense )
I do something similar with my toolbox (has power locks). I have a witch inside the box for those times the truck will be left somewhere long term or have valet access.
This is something else to plan for when the new truck gets built.
To the OP, did you isolate the two dissimilar metals when putting the switch in?

after drilling the hole I painted the raw aluminum area inside the hole.
the switch came with a rubber grommet as well other than that no isolation
