Yea its supposed to look like that. It has the opening on that side so the tailgate can be removed. You raise the tailgate about halfway and then lift it out of the opening on the right side, then pull it out of the left side hinge.
Other than the grease loaded up with debris - yes.. the tailgate is a lift-off when you raise it up to a 45 degree angle. The right side lifts out and then the left side just slides out of the full-circle hinge pocket.
I would advise putting a hose clamp or tailgate lock on to keep someone from swiping your tailgate if left unlocked.
Depending on how secure you want the tailgate, you can use the hose clamp trick (will slow down a thief a minute), or you can put on something like a McGard tailgate lock (
Thank u for the great answers....I figured that's all it was...there was a flake of paint on the left side of the right hinge...and a long pine needle...ha...I'll look into the tailgate hinge lock...great advice...thanks
I was actually asking Native Images, since he is the one who posted the pictures. Thanks for your answer though. I forgot what brand I bought but it doesn't work very well. Now i can't use the remote to open the tailgate as it puts too much pressure on the latch.
