CAC Pipe Woes

2016 F550 6.7 with 98k miles. The original factory CAC pipe blew with 20k miles on the truck, replaced under warranty. Second factory pipe blew at 70k miles, and replaced with the H&S silicone pipe. The H&S pipe now has a crack in it, and H&S is refusing to warranty it. For the price of the factory pipe at $70, and not having any better luck with an expensive aftermarket pipe (the H&S in particular), I'm about to just buy 2 factory pipes and just keep one on hand for when it blows. Anyone have any better ideas, or which aftermarket pipe has the best track record?

Get a Rudy's pipe. Much cheaper than the H & S, and I've never heard of a failure. I got mine for $130 bucks on ebay.

Check eBay. There are some one metal tube CAC kits for under $80.

I installed the Mishimoto pipe on my truck. Lifetime warranty but it does cost a bit more for that warranty since it's twice as much as the other kits.

I'm of the school of thought that a spare OEM tube is enough reassurance for me. Its cheap and easier to reinstall than the aftermarket options. If/When mine blows, the new OEM part will go on.

Whatever works for you... At least you're prepared for if and when it happens.

BTW, how much is the OEM CAC cold pipe?

I bought it from autonation Ford white bear lake. Part number BC3Z-6F073-D. It was $63 plus shipping a year ago.

I had an aftermarket cold side kit, I forget if it was a Rudy's or H&S, but the fit was absolute dog****. Alignment was poor, and the metal portion that slid onto the intake manifold was poorly made and didnt seal or lock in place well. I didn't want to chance it blowing off the hose continually or having the metal portion of the kit not stay on the intake.Thats when I sent it back and opted to stick with the OEM kit that fits well and installs easily.

I just checked my emails and found that it was a Rudy's kit that I had ordered and attempted to install. I did buy it from amazon, so maybe I got a knockoff? Either way, the fitment of that particular product was awful which is why I chose to stay OEM.

I have had a Rudy's on my truck for the last 3 years. Forum, fit and function was perfect. It is the 2 metal tube version. Sorry to hear you think you got screwed by buying a Rudy's but if you check, many of the "named brands" are identical as the Rudy's as they are not etched with a name either.

Happy you are satisfied with the stock CAC and carry a spare for your assurance. But on the other hand, just because you found your Rudy's kit wasn't to your quality, doesn't mean it is not more than adequate for others.

They can be a pain to install but my kit is still on and working. Larry wrote a great install thread here:

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...t-install.html

They now have kits that are one solid silicone pipe from the CAC right to the throttle body adapter. More expensive but JMO, worth it. If I ever have an issue with mine, this will go in the Rudy's place:

I never said it was not adequate for others. What I stated was why I chose to stick with OEM and my experience with an aftermarket product. I was answering for the Original Posters sake.

It's good to see the price has become more reasonable. The OEM part at one time was over $200, actually closer to $250 if I remember correctly. Everyone switched to aftermarket which was cheaper at the time and much better built.
