Oil Life?

I just bought a used 2015 F-350. It really is a clean truck. but I bought it in Virginia and drove it home to Georgia, roughly 700 miles.

The "oil life" stayed at 100% the whole time. This seems highly unlikely to me. What part do you think is broken or how do I go about fixing it? Thank you.

My 2011 F350 stays at 100% too. It didn’t used to though (I’m the original owner). Not sure when or why it stopped working.

I never paid attention to it though other than to reset it to get rid of the message; I just track the miles and change it around 6,000 miles

Are you looking at the right screen ? If you let it cycle thru the different values (top button I think), it will show oil life. If you go to the reset function, it will show 100%.
This is on the basic info screen, not the fancy colored ones.

4k miles then change, forget this idiotic oil life reminder crap. It doesnt consider how hard you drive, your idle hours, climate your in etc

The 6.7L diesel has a sensor that detects dirty oil. You can reset the reminder, but it will come back if the oil is dirty and needs to be replaced.

Change the oil at recommended intervals or wait for the sensor to tell you when it is dirty. I like to change it at about 5-7k miles. I also (ONLY) use Motorcraft oil and filter.

Motorcraft oil is specially designed for their engines.

He didn't say whether it was a gas or diesel. I was adding the info for a diesel just in case.

As far as I know the 6.7 uses an algorithm, and not an actual sensor that 'sees' dirty oil. It's more advanced than most systems that simple count rpm's or hours. It also takes temperatures and driving style into account among others.
Motorcraft oil is not 'specially designed' It meets spec but so do many other brands which are just as good or better.

Hmmm,,, I was told Motorcraft oil for diesel motors have additives just for Ford Motors.

I'll keep using Motorcraft oil and filter and Motorcraft Air Filters. I use Rotella in a large Cummins and TranSynd for the Allison transmission.

I do not want to short change the oil or take any risk with a $25,000 Motor or $15,000 transmission.

The same goes with Ford products. The engineers and designers know more than I do.

Can't go wrong with it. I've always used motorcraft filters and oil for a long time. Still use the filters but I do use other oils.
