Thoughs on oi consumption

So I had just right at 5K miles on Rotella T6 oil. Leave Maryland headed to Florida.

Get down to florida, level is right where it always is. Just the top of the hash marks.

Tow back home, 900 miles, now at the middle of the hash marks.

So in 1800 to 1900 miles I lost 1./2 qt. Or really more like the last 900 miles.

No leaks, no degas level creep, nothing on the tails pipes, all clean.

No regens last 2K miles at least.

Anyone else have any oil loss like this? Sitting at 58,200 and 1600 hours.

Someone recently posted they found a bunch of oil in the intercooler after something failed. Probably not of any help so subscribing because I want to know where that oil went.

might be worth just taking the connection loose to see.

I know I run it hard but should not and never has lost oil before.

Just did same thing. Drove from MD down to Fla Keys, and towed 14k back yesterday and today (hope you missed the 95 N closures in SC and GA Monday evening). Just checked my oil level, no change.

Note: I did lose a half quart a couple OCIs ago. Tuned out to be a one time thing, as I havent lost any oil in last 20k miles.

I am hoping it was just some creep I didn't notice over the life of the oil change.

We ran it all yesterday, leaving at 630 am and arriving at 11 pm. Didn't stop or shut down except for fuel.

had some construction but not much.

I discovered three weeks ago I was 1 qt low after 5,000 miles. I am 99% certain I filled with the correct 13 quarts last oil change (A) because my notes said I did, I would have checked the level after running it and (B) I have the correct amount left over.
I cannot find oil anywhere. I have not had this issue before where it wasn't related to a leak. Coolant systems are fine.
When the vacuum pump loosened and was leaking, I had oil everywhere under and along the frame.
My truck will sit for a week with nothing on the ground.

I pulled the CAI, the front of the turbo is clean just in case for some reason oil would have made it there, such as the turbo ingesting it if that's possible.
I pulled the top part of the CAC duct that connects to that butterfly valve section and it didn't look any worse than it did two years ago when I replaced the first one. I loosened the clamp on the lower side of the duct that attaches to the CAC, I couldn't easily get that off and didn't want to create an air leak for no reason but oil didn't leak out of the CAC housing while I was messing with it. I remember removing the failed one fairly easily but maybe that's because I didn't care about it.

I don't think I'm burning it because I think 1 qt would leave residue in the walls of the exhaust pipe, especially at the final bend before the tips. Mine is just dry looking soot, which is expected for mine. I've concluded I'm just going to have to see what happens over time before I assume I've got an issue.

On one hand, glad to know that others have had this happen. Hope it is a one time thing for me too.

Will be out again with the 5th wheel in a couple of weeks so we will see.

Crisis averted! After letting the truck sit all day yesterday and last night, oil level is back up to where it should be.

My assumption is that I ran it pretty hard and for over 17 hours straight.

Glad to hear it wasn't anything to be concerned about. What are you using for engine oil, Molasses? That's some sticky stuff if a half quart didn't fall back in the pan right away.

Just using T6. Now the motor was still warm and the degas bottle was still way above full and warm.

So maybe that all had a piece of the pie, who knows.

I started it this evening and all sounds good.

All I know is that if you accidentally overfill it, it won't use a drop.

Just wanted to follow up on this. We did 6700 hard miles through va, then through Colorado, new mexico and into Arizona and back. hot days 111F max abient temps

This time I ran 15/40 wt and did an oil report from blackstone.

So I indeed have no issues.
