Okay, after searching left, right, up, and down I can’t find the answer. Sorry. So here I go
-2005 F250 superduty crew cab short box
-Some version of Ride Rite air bags that are mounted to the OUTSIDE of the frame (bag part number is 6781). Trying to make sure which I have I can’t find what kit number it is based on install manuals.
I want to install a B&W turn over ball gooseneck hitch (1108).
Are these compatible items (aka do I have to drill through brackets or will the hitch kit even fit)?
Finally, the truck has a tool box that extends above the bed rail behind the cab 5.5”. Is this going to be an issue?
Since you have a short bed, more than likely the tool box will be in the way.
Another thing that is going on here is the payload of the F250. You need to get it on the scales and see here it stands. You do not want to exceed the axle ratings and or the tires, whichever is lighter. Getting it weighed is the only way to proceed before the purchase of a trailer.
The air bag setup on the outside of the frame will not work with a B&W Turnover Ball, you will have to get bags that are mounted inside of the frame. The hitch bracket mounts in the same place as the bags and you can't move the bags out because of the way they set on the spring. Your tall toolbox will have to go.
One other option would be to use standard in the box rails and get a gooseneck adaptor plate for it but the tool box is still a big problem.
Assuming he's pulling a fifth wheel; if he's just wishing to hook up a farm trailer the tool box would be OK.
Lose the airbags and pull within design specs.

Thanks for the response. It’s appreciated. I have contacted Firestone and hope to have an answer as to whether I can get new brackets that will go inside or under the frame. The currently installed brackets are not anything I can find and are either custom aftermarket or older. I may have to replace the brackets and move the bags.
im not going to be using a 5th wheel. Just gooseneck horse or flatbeds. But if I were to need the bed space I can remove the tool box. That shouldn’t be amazingly difficult if needed.

Farm or horse trailer it is. No 5th wheel.
As for the bags, not planning on pulling out of specs. They are more for ride height when loaded or if pulling heavy loads on the property short distances while helping the truck stay where it needs to be. Additionally, it’s for helping level the camper if it’s still hooked to the truck but I’m lazy and not wanting to put in the effort of using the jacks for the night.

Planning on getting it to the scales. Not planning on large payloads necessarily. But the trailers I have access to are gooseneck 2 5/16 couplers. So instead of buying the trailer I can make my truck multi purpose by adding the hitch.
