I am looking for a hitch for my 2003 F350 DRW SWB 4x4 with the following requirements and hope to get some feedback:
slider for my shortbox
an adapter to allow for either fifth wheel or gooseneck trailers (sliding capability must be there with both!)
the fifth wheel must have a side-to-side rocking capability
I would prefer to not have rails in the box when the hitch is removed but I have read of some problems w/the under box frames (hard to mount/may or may not be compatible with air bags » not sure if they will be needed but do not want to limit my options)
if it has to be to get all the features I want --> box frame rails can/will be tolerated
I hope there is something that will fit the bill. I was thinking of the Reese Signature series and have the adapter for the gooseneck (I am not sure if they make this for this hitch and whether or not it will function with the slider). I was wondering if anyone has this hitch and how much of a "pain" the protruding pucks are and if airbags are compatible with this setup. This is just one of the avenues I was considering but I hope to hear from others. Thanks in advance!
I don't think your going to find an underbed mount hitch that has sliding abilities.... If they made such a thing you'd have to have a grove cut in the bed the entire length of the slide, along with side frame brackets that match. You might be able to get offset drop ins (ball or 5th plate)
The Reese Signature has a slider (gets you the under bed mount). But doesn't appear to have a goose neck ball.
The other (Reese 16k, 22k, etc) have a slider and a goose neck, but the goose neck doesn't slide... Then you have the rails in the bed.
I wonder if the Reese Signature with a "hidden" under bed goose neck ball in the middle of the rails would work? Gives you the best of both worlds..
Question... Why do you need a slider for the goose neck? Most, if not all goose neck trailers I have seen have the hitch point all the way at the front of the trailer and the trailers are usually pointed so you would have to be in a REALLY tight turn to hit your cab.
