MAP Boost foolers

There are a lot of boost fooler on the market that have different approaches to accomplishing the same thing, but basically it's just a small leak in the tube going to the MAP sensor that keeps the it from seeing the actual boostpressure.

If anyone out there has one, that has the tools to accurately measure the small hole, could you please measure it and post the hole size so we all don't have to keep getting ripped off for the stupid things?

I realize this doesn't solve waste gate issues, but that's next on the list.

If you look it the tech folder, there is a DIY boost fooler that you can build yourself with things obtained from any decent hardware store.

Edit: I stand corrected, after searching the tech folder, I can't seem to find that thread listed in there and this forum's search feature is NOT very helpful.

I bought an OCR from Riffraff because it was easy, reliable and looks good.

I "think" that link led to a broken link or the thread was old and the pictures were hosted on Photobucket. I cannot remember the details for sure, but I know I purged a lot of links that were no longer working or the content became unavailable.

I agree, but I have honed my skills in order to usually find what I need to find. Although, sometimes I go to Google to help me search the FTE only and specifically. You can use the almighty power of Google to search the FTE by following the examples in the links below.

I made one with an air regulator. Unfortunately it responded too slowly to pressure changes. It worked well for normal driving and towing but when "testing" tunes it couldn't keep up.

That's one of the nicer versions I've seen.

Boost fooler is not required with good tuning.

If you wish to protect the MAP sensor from being damaged high boost psi...then yes, it's required. (or "I" think it's required)

This is not true. It is absolutely not required unless you have sub-par tuning.

Boost fooler is a band aid used by tuners over 10yrs ago before they figured out how to get around defueling and SES light from ‘over Boost’ (~24psi).

Even Banks had to fool the MAP sensor 20 years ago, but he did it electrically, with a tiny zener diode.

Which tuners specifically have gotten around the 24 psi limit?

Years ago I would run Gear Head (GH) tunes and their tunes did not set a CEL or defuel at the MAP PSI limit. When I upgraded to the SXE turbo from the MST turbo, the GH tunes made the truck perform like crap.

I switched to PHP 65 HP Performance and have been happy since. I cannot say if PHP removes the CEL at the PSI de-fueling MAP limit because I installed the OCR from Riffraff at the same time as the SXE.

I may have reverted back to my SNCO days in the military with my use of acronyms, I apologize...

I think PHP no longer does the tunes. Bought a used Hydra unit to play with it. Tried to use Jelibuilt but it didn't work out as well and he suggested pretty much everything needed to be changed from IPR, to HPOP, etc. For now, the DP-Tuner one that was datalogged works better so that experiment was a failure for now.

The Hydra comes with a standard OEM injector library of tunes from PHP which can be downloaded via the Hydra Flash software. PHP also offers an extended library of tunes for modified injectors available through authorized dealers like CNC Fabrication. It is called "Titan Unlock" or something like that.

So yes, PHP does tunes, but only what is available from either of their tune libraries. I run the 65 HP Performance from the PHP standard library and think it is a good match for my hardware.

PHP may do a live tuning session if you went to their storefront, but I cannot say that is a for sure option.

Did you start a thread about your failed Hydra experience? There are very few instances of people having problems with the Hydra. I cannot remember even one off the top of my head that wasn't user/installer error of some sort.
