timing 94 5.0

well i installed new plugs wires roter and cap a couple of weeks ago
there was no info in my pice of sh&^%t haynes book
on timing i did talk to a couple of people and they
said to pull the spout plug i think i found it.
its a gray plug on the left fender in the corner close to the fire wall i am asuming that is a jumper plug to disable the
the timing advance the stiker states that the timing
should be set to 10 degreas btdc.
BUT there is a line stamped on the distribtor and the
manafold and i have herd that you cant time them.
is this true?
i have a slight pinging and hope to solve the problem
by cking the timing and setting it to ware it belongs
and if i can change the timing whats up with the
line that stamped
on the distribtor shaft and the manafold?
this is a 94 f 150 5.0 vas vages truck mass aid flow
if that matters

timing 94 5.0

Remove the Spout Connector , Attach your timing light , Start the engine & see of the timing is @10 Deg Btdc . If not , loosen the ditributor hold down bolt & adjust it until its @ 10 deg , Tighten the hold down bolt . Reinstall the Spout connector & Youre Done .

timing 94 5.0

Your pinging may not be timing at all. Get your fuel injectors cleaned by a professional (not just dump a bottle of cleaner in the gas tank). You may be leaning out the Fuel/Air mixture due to clogged injectors. This is probably the case if your idle is a little rough and the Check Engine light comes on every once and a while.

No there isnt a line that you can just line up on the manifold, the timing marks are on the harmonic balancer and the pointer is bolted to the timing chain cover, i would time it to 14 degrees btdc for a little more performance

well thats whanted to here about timing the truck pull the plug shoot and plug in.as far as the line thats stamped on the distribter shaft and the manafold thats not what i ment
i now ware the timing marks are on the harmonic balance
what i ment was that whats up with that and i herd
two diffrent things about the timing of the truck and wanted
some clearty.i had the injection cleaned 2 months ago
but i wasent happy with the job they did they
hooked a I V BAG up the power brake booster vacume line
and put a bottle of injector cleaner in the tank. i now
i got ripped off and i biched at them about how crappy
of a set up it was if i wasent in the pisser when they hooked
it up i would have stoped them i was looking for a machine
to be hooked up to the fuel rail or a motor vac.
well i am gona have it done a seconed time soon and i am
gona find a shop with a motor vac.
if i set the timing at 14 D btdc that will rob me of some
power.so 10 it is
by the way they gave me 20.00 off eather to get rid of me
and or becuse i made a good argument and they dident have
a good answer.
