I just got a 95 Bronco, with a 5.0L in it. It has a almost new Flowmaster system, but stock manafolds, and Ypipe. I am planing a headder install for some time in the future, and am thinking that that Y pipe would be a big restrection. What are you all doing? I DO want to keep a cat in it, but other then that, I am open. Also budjet is a big thing. I have a ton of other projects, and dont want to spend BIG bucks, just want a litle more power, and if I get a little better MPG that would be awsome also.
You can use your stock y pipe if you go with shortie headers. At least that's what I was told. I just bought some Hedman Shorties and I'm hoping to hook them right to the y pipe. It'll be deadly. I love the rumble..
Well you say you are on a budget, but do you have a figure we can work with? There are a few options open for you. 1.) You can have any exhaust shop fabricate a new high flow Y pipe with a universal high flow catalytic convertor. 2.) You can buy an 'off the shelf' high flow Y pipe. Do you want an aluminized Y pipe, or a stainless steel version? I can highly recommend a Bassani high flow Y pipe for your application. I ran one on a 96 bronco, and loved it (along with their headers and catback). They arent cheap, but they should last you forever. It is a stainless steel unit, with a true 3" high flow cat. I think I paid in the neighborhood of $360 for mine. An aluminized version, made by an exhaust shop, should be a bit cheaper. Check out proficientperformance.com for some pricing on a Bassani pipe.
