Help 94 f150 5.0 wont start
Ok, so I just got a 94 F150 from a friend thinking I would be able to fix it. When I first got it It would run fine, but after driving it for awhile(like 20 min) it would not start until the next day. I thought It was the fuel pump but I could hear it turn on, When ever I turned the key over. But then I noticed the distribtor was turning when I was cranking the engine. So I tightend that down. And It would not start, So I thought maybe the timing was messed up. So I checked the timing and it was off alittle, and while I fixed that, I also replaced plugs and plug wires. When I tested it to see if it would start. It ran for maybe 2 minutes and then would not start again. I can smell a weak fuel smell, and It started smoking from the spout under the oil cap. Please help me I am lost, and not the greatest with engines. The truck is a 94 F150 4x4 with a 5.0 EFI, thank you.

A fuel pressure gauge would give you some much needed information. If the engine is starved for fuel it could be a fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, etc. I bought one several years ago and have used it many times. It attaches right to the fuel rail so that you can check the pressure with the key off, on, starting, and running.

I vote for a bad PIP sensor.
Make sure the ICM is a Black one.
The auto parts stores will try to sell you the wrong one. The wrong one is the Gray one.
I dough you have a fuel problem if you can hear the fuel pumps turn on for one second a quit each time you turn on the key when it will not start.
I would also check to see if it has any stored codes and if the KOEO test comes back with a 111 code.

Ok update, So I cant even get it to crank at all now. Ive replaced the coil, didnt help. I went out and bought a code reader, but since I disconnected bat I guess codes cleared out. The only reading I got was 111 which means its good. I pretty sure I got the timing right. I cranks and sounds like it wants to start. But it wont. I also went and bought A fuel pressure gauge and It read 39 PSI so thats good and held there even when trying to crank. I even double check the fuel pump, by disconnecting fuel line and turning pump on, and it sprayed gas pretty good. Theres no check engine light on at all. So Iam completely lost with this truck. I know its gonna be something I didnt think about. Oh yea I checked and made sure Its getting spark and it is. So I know its getting Fuel, spark, and compression. That should be enough to start right. Please any help would be great.

Thanks for the reply, I went out and got a fuel pressure guage and checked the pressure at the fuel rail. And I got a reading of 39 PSI when its off and when trying to crank. Also it holds the pressure. So it should be getting fuel, and I know its getting spark and compression. But I'm still lost, again thanks for the reply.

Try spraying starter fluid into the Throttle body when you crank the engine.
See if it will try to start then.
Or put a Noid light on one of the injector plugs, crank it and see if it flashes.
If it will try to start or you get no flashes then you may have a bad computer or no power or grounds to the computer.
