My WP went out as normal when you need it now and can't wait a week for a OEM to show up.
I end up buying a NEW NAPA WP and have not looked back.
I used NAPA new WP before and never had any problems with them lasting.
I have not used there rebuilt WP so I can't tell you if there good or not.
The New NAPA WP have a lifetime warranty on them.
If need one now and you need one now Get a NAPA.
I most of the time go with OEM but when you need it now you do what you need to do.
When my radiator went bad and my wife was taking the truck I end up buying and Autozone radiator because needed now and the need to be on the road in 2 hours.
...
I will be replacing the second AZ gear with a Blue Top or WTO gear soonish.
...
What caused you to change your mind, Sous? I thought I read the other day in another thread that you were planning on going back with a Motorcraft replacement whenever your AZ unit expired. Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly?

Pete, I don't think I said I was going with a Motorcraft steering gear, but I may have misspoke/misswrote... Recently I said I would be getting a Motorcraft power steering pump if I found mine was leaking at the shaft seal. Maybe that is what you are thinking of?
The AZ steering gear was a "need now" purchase and the second AZ steering gear was because it was free under warranty so it only cost me a couple of hours to swap it with hopes that it would be good. It is not good... Also, as far as I know you cannot buy a new Motorcraft steering gear anymore. So, my thinking is going with a quality rebuilt steering gear from BlueTop or WTO might be a better choice.
I'm not an expert on this, but when my water pump failed I think it was due to a failed shaft bearing. It made a horrendous squeal, which was caused by the impeller rubbing on the block and actually wore a groove in the block after a few miles of driving. So, if that is what you are experiencing, you may want to get in there an check it. I'm always wondering if that groove is now a weak point as far as cavitation.
If you take the belt off, can you move the fan around a lot?
It moves a little. The noise is intermittent. Right now it is grumbling but no squeak. Closest noise I can relate it too is like a quiet version of how a loose u joint in the knuckle sounds at low speed.
Alliant Water pump for Strictly Diesel if you can wait. I have used three of them and it is what is on my truck now. 75k miles and no issues so far. First one had 135k on it when I sold it.
I understand the need it now situation. But as it's my semi slow time of year and I do only work 2 miles from home I can wait for the International replacement to come in. Dont think it's the one with a filter. All the local banks are closed so we will see how this goes.

Correction: fan moved considerably.
I would try to not drive it until you get the water pump changed - at least based the experience I had.
If I remember correctly, I ended up going with the International version. It has been fine, although I've put probably less than 15,000 miles on it since changing it out.

did you replace the bottom elbow on the pump or reuse the old one? I'm not sure how well it will come apart with it being what looks like aluminum.

interesting comment ... I have a grumbling sound I cant identify.. replaced the PS pump and it is significantly reduced but still there.. made me think it's a bad bearing on the belt tensioner... but now thinking it could be the WP bearing...

yeah I checked the tensioner and the idler pulleys as well as the rest. Minimal noise from them. Water pump is where it was at. Maybe that was the belt squeak I thought I had occasionally too.

I think I will not drive it tomorrow, should be able to put one of my batteries out of this truck in my 96 F150 I think and just run that.

plus I've been leaking coolant.. especially when cold out (parked overnight)...

Yup... steering gear it was. Maturity (CRS) strikes yet again!
