Hi,
I just bought a 2018 Ford Scab with a 6 1/2 foot box. I am looking for a hard folding tonneau cover but after struggling with the tailgate step, I would like to have a cover that covers the top of the tailgate completely. The step came out with a little persuasion and some white lithium grease for future openings. This truck was leased, so I am assuming it had no cover on the bed/tailgate.
Any thoughts on folding hard covers?
Thanks,
Jeff
My folding hard cover does not cover the step, it seems like the only option is a single piece lifting cover like the one robbgt showed.
A good source for covers is: tonneaucoversworld.com That link should show you the options. However, unless you have a true issue with the mechanicals, a periodic lube should be all you need for the step. Did you take the tailgate apart to look at the workings?
I had a Hard Hat cover on my 2015 and now have Fords version of the Backflip, neither covered the entire step. I have never had a problem with the step on either one of the trucks.
Do you want to cover the step to keep water out? I've never had an issue with my step, never been covered, truck lives outside (over 4 years now). My bet is there was debris in your step and it was not used much if at all. Using it will keep it working properly.

Perhaps it just wasn’t used much or at all by the previous owner hence the reason you had trouble with deployment.,
With that being said, I think you’d be fine with a F1 or for a little less money, the MX4 by BAK.
Thanks Guys. I did get it open with some persuasion. I did put some white lithium grease on the sliding parts. Seems to work ok now, I have opened it quite a few times. It will be in the garage when I am not using it, so water should not be a problem.
