This ground wire has been hanging here since I bought the truck and I’d like to know where the original mounting spot for the wire is. This is a 1963 f-100 2wd
I believe it would be at the starter case or mounting bolt. Others here will confirm, but the reason things seem to be fine without it, is that the starter has adequate ground via the mounting bolts for the time being....
I have seen them hooked up at the starter mounting bolts, bellhousing, blocks ect. The important thing is make sure both ends of surfaces are clean and free of dirt, paint and rust. I would rather have a extra ground or 2 than not have them. It will save you headaches down the road.

I am currently (Pun intended) upgrading the grounds in my 65. I have ground wires at , Battery to block, battery to fender,, fender to core support, block to frame, block to firewall, firewall to dash. Still planning to add bed to frame , bed to cab, alternator to frame, and anything else I come up with. You can't have too many grounds on these old trucks.
BTW, I got a 10' piece of braided copper wire and a box of solder on copper terminals off Amazon for about $20, what one good ground cable costs retail. Copper lugs, assorted, were $20 on Amazon. About $5 each on the battery terminals. not shown.
