I have 235/85R16 on my half ton right now, falken wildpeak at3w. Previously ran 33x10.5R15 bfg at ko, before that some cheap 235/75R15's (Trail Guide). Prior to that, same size but bfg at ko, before that same size but Goodyear Wrangler HT.

The smaller size is good for a mostly highway truck, though with decent tread you can still get around fine off pavement as long as the rocks and ruts aren't too big. I used to stack plenty of rocks with the little tires but still got around, just slower and always felt like I was riding the line of getting stuck. They drive nicer on the road though.

I liked the bfg tires a lot until they were down to ~50% or less tread, in both sizes. Then the traction falls off. Best overall tire so far has been the Falken. Just a solid all around tread with reasonable tread life and road manners but still delivers in the dirt and snow/ice. The Wrangler HT was excellent on dry pavement and lasted the longest by far, sucked everywhere else and punctured very easy on shale rock. The cheap Trail Guide tires were a joke, only good from them was the price.

If we are talking about F150s I would only get 31 10.50 15. The factory dinky 235 75 15 may have come on the truck stock but is better suited for Ranger/Explorer in my opinion.

I have quite a bit of tire experience. But I have P265/75R16 Mastercraft Courser MSR on the rear of my F250, running 32 psi for winter traction ( 2wd ). I have 2 junk 295/75R22.5 trailer tires in the rear for weight. The front has LT245/75R16 Cooper Discover AT3's that came with it.
After winter in a few weeks, I will install LT245/75R16 Falken Wildpeak AT3/W on the rear. The Courser MSR/ Cooper Discover M+S ( same tire ) are a great winter tire BUT they are changing to new casings/ tread patterns next year and Coopers recently have been garbage in the QC department ( out of round, defects ect )

That said, I'm a Goodyear tire expert, and Falken Peak trained so I might be a little biased.. The best all around summer/ winter AT tire available is the Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac, with the second best being the Falken Wildpeak AT3/W. Falkens sell themselves being good and inexpensive.

For sure go for a 31x10.5x15 or a 265/75R15 on an F150.. Falkens get my personal pick, but I'd go for Duratracs if I had the extra cash

Well most everything I get is a 35"+ mud tire...

But when my 94 bronco was stock it had 31x10.50x15s on it. The nitto trail grappler is a solid all terrain tire. Does well in the rain and snow, decent on ice, good in the dirt, and decent in shallow mud. I have some Big O bigfoot AT on an explorer and they are pretty good too. A bit better in the mud than the nitto. Not as good in the snow and ice.

I've had several sets of BFG AT on my old trucks but decided to go with Coopers on this truck. I've had AT3 and now ATP. Both have done great but I really like the ATP. Seem smoother quieter and better in rain that the BFG.

I have, like most of you, 31x1050x15's on a 92 4x4. They are Hankook Pathfinders @ $145 ea. The narrow 235's are good for snow that is not packed. the wider ones are not good for ice, and will pack an aggressive tread full of snow and mud. Actually, i have never had a tire that works in every situation. Depends if you want good looks, or good ride.

LT235/75 R15 All-Terrains. Goodyear Territory in the rear, whatever noname in the front. This size looks fine on a rwd in my opinion.

31x10.5 LT 15" Goodyear Duratracs. Still run these in the summer, a bit loud but they grip and wear fantastically. I think they look great, although the front is levelled.

Hankook iPike P235/75 R15 Studded winters. Handle our winters great, but they look a bit small for the truck.
