If you have a truck with remote start, as I do, can you program a key with without remote start for the truck (my truck has the keyed ignition)? So the new key would only have the lock/unlock/panic functions and, of course, the flip out key.
I have a flip key and just installed a factory remote start on the truck last month. To start the truck I click Lock/ unlock/ lock or double click the long range remote start fob. Both work as they should so I imagine your remote will work the same if you used a fob without the start button.
When i tried to program one of the aftermarket keys via the instructions in the manual it will start the truck but the lock/unlock don't work. I tried a new battery, reprogramming several times, and no luck. The seller is telling me the keys are no compatible but if that were the case I doubt it would start the truck.
FWIW - I have 2 original keys, turned the keys in the ignition from off to run and let it sit for 3 seconds (2 dings) then to off - for the 2 original keys. Turned the new key from off to run and let it sit for several seconds and got the key programmed successfully message on the screen.
Interestingly enough when i tried the other method, turn key from off -> run -> off 8 times (fast), then off -> run -> off twice with second key the door locks would cycle, then when turning new key from off to run it would get "key programming not successful."
When starting the truck with the new key, doesn't it lock the doors? Neither of my starting methods will allow the truck to start without locking the doors. The key fob locks the truck by sequence and the long range fob auto locks as it starts.
I'm not sure...haven't ever paid attention to it. But the button on the remote do not lock and unlock the doors at all. This sucks because this is going to be my solution since I do not have the keypad on the outside of the truck. But if i remote start the truck and turn the key in the lock i get a message on the dash screen - something about the alarm being activated. That goes away when I turn the key in the ignition.

This is an interesting situation you've uncovered. So with the new remote you can remote start the truck and key start the truck but can not unlock/ lock with the remote?
Maybe there is something needed in Forscan. Hopefully someone can chime in that has experience with this.
Just to clarify....there is no remote start on the new remote, but I can start the truck with the key. However the lock/unlock buttons don't work. It is annoying but not the end of the world.
