I recently purchased a 2000 F150 xlt 4door. It came with only one key and no keyless entry remotes (I am pretty it has the option installed). I was recently told that I would have to go to the dealership for a second key at a cost of $80 since you need two keys to program a new cut third key. Is there anyway to get around this cost or procedure?...Also... I recently purchased a Prestige Remote start \ keyless entry system. Will this system work with only one key?...and...has anyone installed one of these kits? if so..what are some of the problems I need to watch out for when installing this myself....I am a trained tech.....thanks for any responses
As far as I know there is no way around getting the dealership to program the key.
As for the remote starter you will have to install a PATS bypass module. This fools the truck's PATS system into thinking there is a proper key in the ignition so it will start. Hopefully the place that you bought the starter off will have info on this.
