Flashlight recommendations

Looking for a good, dependable flashlight that can tolerate button pushing all day long.

I’m constantly using my flashlight to inspect vehicles and perform repairs throughout the day - sometimes it’s getting turned on and off 2 dozen times or more a day. I’ve tried nearly every off the shelf flashlight from hardware, tool, and auto stores ranging from the free harbor freight junk to the +/-$20 slightly better junk.

I recently tried “Coast” (new brand I’ve seen lately) and it has a great beam and lasts a long time on 2 AA batteries, but like every other one, it can’t withstand the daily on/off for more than a few weeks. I’ve also tried mini mag lites but I don’t like having to rotate it, not only to turn it on but also to focus the beam to where I need it (not too easy if my hands are covered in greasy slime).

I KNOW it’s an issue of button contact but I just don’t have time to attempt repairs in the middle of the day and I’m willing to try it in my off time but it’s far down the priority list.

I’m needing a pocket size light with a decent beam (LED’s work best) and a push button or slide switch. Preferably one that doesn’t cycle through several modes (I’ve accidentally bought a couple that had 5 or 6 different modes and I can’t express the frustration of using them ).

Thanks.

Get yourself a GI Angle flashlight? Remember those?

What you want is a headlamp most likely, hands free and naturally direct light where you're looking. Get one, and you'll never look, er, back

I’ve got a head lamp and a 1250 lumen rechargeable work light and they’re both good for when I’m actually performing repairs.

The pocket flashlight is mostly for initial inspections - a lot of times our customers drop by for us to do a quick check on a check engine light, noise, etc - or I’ll use it during repairs if I need a little more light than what my head lamp or work light provides (the work light is great but causes shadows in a lot of situations, so I’ll use the pocket light to see without repositioning the work light).

I got one of these about 10 years ago as a gift at first I thought it was junk ...but I still use it every day ... the UV led's on it are handy for Dyes too....it has a strong Magnet for sticking it to things...

What I don't like is the battery cap doesn't lock very well but a piece of electrical tape and it won't accidentally twist off.

I don't know if they even sell the Green ones anymore but maybe the newer ones solved the Battery holder issue..... anyway JMHO

That looks a little bigger than a pocket size flashlight - I guess if I’m gonna give a reference, I prefer a pen-light type flashlight because it’s easy to leave in my back pocket when going on test drives. Not that I need it on test drives, it’s just one less thing to do if I don’t have to remember to leave it on my tool box.

it's pocket size 6.25" long and has a clip on the back that you can clip on to pocket or waist band but I just keep it in pocket and don't use the clip...
it uses 3 AAA batteries..
