So my son just purchased a 2017 Lariat with 20K miles in prefect condition , I'm curious Did Ford do anything different to combat the pump failure what we hear about with the 2011-2016 CP4 pumps ? We are using Opti-lube XL as a precaution in our 3 other 6.7's
Thanks

It will be fine.
just use good fuel additives and dont put and DEF in the fuel tank and drain the water/fuel separator once a month per the owners manual.
Call your insurance company if it fails and Ford claims water contamination.
Good luck & congratulate him on his new truck on behalf of FTE

the CP4 problem is across all diesel vehicle manufactures and in spite of vehicle manufactures say is operator created problem by running poor fuel that has air and water...the fact is the post 2007 diesel fuel has less lube value .

He knows that. That's why he's running Optilube XL.
To the OP, the '15 CP4 was upgraded with a coating on the piston to reduce friction and help it survive small amounts of water. Since then the CP4 was modified in '17 and '20 but as far as we know the only mods were to provide the needed pressures of the "new" engine. Keep running Optilube.
