So, on my '93 (302) I replaced the factory smog pump about 4.5 years ago at probably 65000-ish miles because it started squealing like hell. Now, at about 120000, the current one started making a "clicking" noise. Having a long road trip to make the next day, & figuring it was on its way out again, I decided to just go ahead & temporarily bypass it. As it turns out, I was right. When turning it by hand, you can hear a bunch of broken pieces moving around, & I guess more pieces fell off inside during the trip because it actually locks itself up now & you have to mess with it to get it to keep turning. So, in short, I've got another reman pump to install.
Now, in honor of having to install yet another of these - my question: How long have these smog pumps lasted for y'all? I expect I'm not the only one with this issue.
Original ford part lasted 100k miles. First rebuilt pump from autozone lasted about 4k miles. 2nd rebuild installed has about another 6k on it and it is starting to chirp. When it locks up I am installing a pulley.

Seems I'm for sure not alone here then. I'm definitely with you on putting a pulley in it's place next time it fails. Only reason I even went with another pump this time is that I found one for $48 + core charge at the local NAPA, whereas it's $260 + core everywhere else.
