1986 F150 Fuel pump problems
I have a 1986 F150 5.0(302ci)EFI with 107K original miles. It's been a great truck,but at about 60K miles, I replaced the electric high pressure/rail mounted fuel pump. Since then,this same fuel pump goes out every 5 to 10K miles. I have tried Borg/Warner pumps, Ford OEM pumps, cheapo checker pumps, and they all fail. The dealer cannot find anything wrong. When the pump is running fine, the truck runs fine. When the pump starts going out, the truck can't pull a grade, or just craps out all together. Replace the pump and everything is ok. The last pump lasted less than 100 miles, the Ford OEM pump ($$$) before that lasted 5000 miles. I have recently replaced the aft tank fuel pump, the fuel resevior and filter and the inline filter.
Anyone have any ideas? Could someone check the TSB's for me? My TSB's only go back to 1989. The dealer said that he checked, but I think that he was giving me lip service.
