Looking to increase my mpg made a previous post about what to do and I ended up replacing spark plugs wires boots and changing all the fluids in the truck besides differential fluid and I got all new rotors pads and calipers. My brakes were dragging and it helped my mpg by about 1mpg but was wondering what else I could do to increase mpg. I am getting around 10.5 now and my truck is stock including lift and tires. Also run around 65-70psi in tires and I also have a tailgate that lets air through it. Thanks for any advice in advance
Banks has some stuff that will help a bit, driving 60 to 65 mph very gently will also help. However its a large heavy truck with a gas motor and there is only so much you can do.......except upgrade to a diesel truck. Good luck, Russ
I was under the impression that the fuel filter was in fuel tank and that you never have to change it? But maybe I'm wrong. Also I took air filter out and it looks almost brand new. I realize that it's a big truck and I didn't buy it for mpg but I just thought most got closer to 15mpg rather than 10mpg. I also mostly use it on paved country roads so I'm usually doing about 60mph and occasionally on highway at 70mph
My 2014 6.2 averages around 10 mpg as a short trip daily driver but the best I got was 16.8 mpg on a 300 mile interstate trip but I was only going 50 - 55 mph because fog was reducing visibility. I have seen several tests that actually show that a factory tailgate provides the best mpg. They show the air swirling in the box and lifting the air over the tailgate is more aerodynamic than trying to force the air through a tailgate that restricts the flow. I have a cover on my box and I noticed that that has reduced my mpg by about .5 mpg too.
My father-in-law took his gas powered class "A" Allegro Bus motor-home to Banks for the full treatment. He went from 6.5 mpg average to 8.75 sometimes 9 mpg average. Over the years almost all of my full size gas trucks have gotten 10 to 12 mpg average. The only exception was a 1990 F-250 4x4 with conservative gearing and an anemic 5.0 V8. It could get 17 mpg on the highway at 55 mph and averaged 14.5 to 15 mpg, however it was very under powered and couldn't haul very much weight. Today I have a diesel F-350 and am happy on all counts. Good Luck, Russ

I think most get closer to 15 going downhill with a tail wind. When I had my 6.2 gasser I think the overall average was around 11 if my memory serve me right.
@Meyer6.2 I couldn't tell from you profile if you have a 6.5 ft bed but there is a company that makes a fastback bed cover for 6.5ft F150 beds so it should also fit F250 6.5 ft beds. It's call the Aero X.

Put the stock tailgate back on. I know it looks wrong, but I've tested it. The truck is more aerodynamic with the stock tailgate compared to the louvered tailgate.
Other things that help is to slow down and to make sure you are steady on the go pedal. I've ridden with people that stab the pedal and then let off, and do that over and over again. They never hold a steady position on the pedal. That type of driving can cost up to 3-4 MPG by itself.
I have a 2013 F-250 Lariat FX4/w 6.2L & 35x12.50s and on the hwy I get ~17mpg at 55-60mph. This is babying it though. I'm averaging around 15mpg overall with mixed city/hwy driving. It's fairly rural where I live and commute.
My truck didnt come with a stock tailgate but I ended up buying one and I would say it might of helped by about .5mpg but I just changed all the fluids spark plugs and brakes and that definitely helped but just thought I should be getting closer to 13 or 14. I also almost always use cruise control and I don't have to heavy of a foot at all. I'm not sure what the banks is that you are talking about. Not sure if I could get a chip or anything else like this thanks for all the help so far though appreciate it very much
This is the "Banks" I was referring to; https://www.bankspower.com/search.ht...l%3D6.2L%20GAS basically a high flow exhaust and a programmer. Similar items are available from many sources, but over the years IMHO Banks products have consistently been emissions compliant while protecting the engine and drive train by not over doing the tuning. just my .02 and worth at least what you paid for it. Good luck, Russ
