Went to grease the slip yoke on my front driveshaft. Four bolts that hold the straps came off easy. However, I cannot get the u joint to separate/come out of where it sits in the front axle. (I don't know the correct term for where the u joint sits, so I hope this makes sense) Do I just take a pry bar and start prying to try and get the u joint to pop loose?
When I did the rear driveshaft I had the opposite problem. Rounded off 2 of the 4 bolts on the u joint straps, but the u joint popped loose no probelm, and the slip yoke slid right out after I finally got the bolts out.
That's what I figured. Ended up taking me prying on it and my dad tapping it with a hammer to get it to break loose. Put some new grease on the splines and put it together and now no more loud clunk when I stop. I do still have a very slight clunk when I put the truck in drive though, not nearly as bad as it was though. Also, I discovered a hole that somebody had drilled and maybe tapped for a grease fitting. But there was no grease fitting. I'm also not 100% sure it had been tapped as I'm not sure there were threads (it was getting dark and kinda hard to see). But the hole was about the right size for a grease fitting, and I don't know why somebody would just randomly drill a hole in the driveshaft.
