AOD

Would an aod from a 5.0 mustang be strong enough for a daily driver 240 F100?

Yes. Just make sure you set up the TV cable correctly.

I found one for $125 that came out of a mustang with 45k on the odometer.

Is this a reasonable amount?

What year? '88 to '93 had many of the issues sorted out. Early boxes are trouble. Since it's from a V8 that's a major plus.

Sounds like a steal for nearly any working transmission.

It is out of a 1992 model GT.

I just checked the listing again and it now says the tranny is shot. Not such a good deal, after all.

I guess I should inquire about it.

Sorry I didnt see your post before mine, if its shot I would be careful. There is a difference between a standard rebuild with new seals and clutches, and one that may require hard parts. If the transmission was abused it could get costly.

When I saw the part about "transmission is shot", my thought was about the same. Probably not such a good deal after all.

If you are looking for a good transmission close by. Try Car-Part.com and set the search for your zip. If you are going for an AOD or C6 it is best to get one from a donor truck if possible. You need to get the block plate that goes between the trans and engine plus all the linkages and maybe the drive shaft. Also you need to give some thought to what type of shifter you are going to use because the manual lever on the transmission is completely different between a column shifter or a floor shifter.

Hope you can find a good one. Personally I prefer an auto and one with OD much better. Dang a full growed Ford truck that can't shift it's own gears.

At this point I am considering a floor shift set-up. I will definitely need to decide soon, as I am in the process of getting p/s components together. I believe the bracket I have is for a V8 (I need one for a 240) as it is different from the pics and diagrams I have seen. Would anyone be interested in a trade? BTW, the pump and box are from a '79.

I also am wondering if I will need to modify the hump. Can someone inform me on this??

You will not have to modify the transmission tunnel. But with a C6 or AOD you will only be able to install or remove the transmission thru the front since they have an integral converter housing and there isn't enough room to remove it from underneath the truck. You can modify the center crossmember by cutting out the rivets and replacing them with bolts in order to remove the transmission separate from the engine. Also you might have to drill new holes for the rear crossmember. If on the other hand you could find a C4 that would eliminate that problem since that transmission uses a sperate converter housing. And it has a lot less internal friction than a C6 or AOD so you will end up with more usable horsepower which would be a good thing with a 240.
