Regular cab replacement
I have a 1988 regular cab F250 4x4 that is shot.
Does anyone know if I can use a regular cab from a 2wd truck, will it bolt right up or is there going to be modifications?? Thanks!!

Does the 88's not have a bolted in cover plate for the shifters? My 93 has a small plate covering the 4x4 shifter hole.
For the transmission, depends on the transmission. Manual trans = yes, auto trans = no.
For the xfer case, the only time I have seen the plate glued over the hole is on 4x4 trucks with electronic shift. My 4x2 did not have the hole, I had to cut it with a jig saw.

Mine does, I saw it when the carpet was out so I could remove the large cover when replacing the clutch and transmission.

No. This is where the pitfalls start to show.
Any 80 to 96 cab and the 97 F250HD will bolt to the frame as long as they are the same configuration and yes, the body lines will match up. Holes in the floor can be resolved with the proper tunnel cover. Dashes and wiring becomes the devil in the detail. There are three main groups, 80 to 86, 87 to 91 and 92 up. Dashes do not easily interchange between groups and the firewall holes are completely different between each generation.
If you are changing cabs between weight classes beware as the VIN assigned to the replacement cab will determine your weight classification for registration purposes.

also, diesel and gas wiring are different. so if the new cab is gas, you will need to use your current diesel wiring harness and dash to get everything to work rite.

Not to try to hijack this thread but, I have a 94 F250 4X4 with a shot cab, Have a really nice 88 F 150 rwd cab I would like to put on the 94. Both auto's but the 150 is a AOD and the 94 is E4OD. Think I have harness and ECU for a 91 351 with a E4OD. Would have to add the OD cancel button and light in the cab. Am I close to making things workable or am I overlooking something major?

NOTHING inside the 88 cab will work on your 94 truck. The 94 dash will NOT bolt into he 88 cab. The 91 harness will not do you much good either. The wire harness layout is different from the 87/91 cab and the 92-97 cab

So the motor will no longer be a mass air, and changed back to a speed set up. Still better then having a running truck with no usable cab, and a great cab on top of a unusable truck.

You will find some difference in the front frame horns and bumper mounting.
There is something about the E4OD in that the earlier vs. later versions had some protection diodes relocated from the transmission to the ECU. Not sure when the cutover was, but a little searching should find you some answers.
