A floor replacement I might bolt on, but, not a cab corner. I am replacing the corners on my 1971 F-100 and I am welding them in.

Mig welder for $200. Are you sure it was a mig? We paid just under $3,500 for ours with all the tanks & accessories.

If you're not a welder, I wouldn't practice on something that visable. I'd do all the prep work myself then pay someone to do the welding.

For $200, it could be a flux-cored wirefeed welder. Turning it into a MIG would mean adding a CO2 tank and regulator.

You ~could~ weld in the corners with a rig like that, but only after a lot of practice and/or lessons.

IF there's enough metal left, and IF you can reach the inside to remove (sandblast) and treat (phosphoric acid) the rust, you'd have a better chance of success with something like a fiberglass patch and marine (waterproof) bondo.

Any welder for the job has to be able to do 1/8 metal. For $200 you cant be getting much unless it is an ARC welder.

If you have not welded before you are going to need about ten hours of practice (as in ten hours of welding bolts, scrap metal, and sheet metal together along with cutting butt welds and trying to destroy them after they are welded).

For a beginner welder the toughest thing is starting the weld after putting your helmet down. I am 100% for learning and doing it youself! Just realize there is a learning curve and if you do not put in the time learning the most likely thing is a damaged truck or a damaged you.

If you are set on doing it yourself and on the cheap, then bolt it in. Otherwise weld it in, do a good job, and it will last a long time and be worth it!

Even if you spend $600 on equipment to weld the $40 corners in it will be worth it because you did it yourself. It is a needed skill for an older pickup truck owner that does not want to be at the mercy of someone else, imo.
