I bought a 1974 F100 4X4 with a C6 Tranny in it. It is not shifting out of first if I put it into Drive. If I manually Shift it from 1 to Second it shifts into Second but not into third. I replaced the Vacuum Modulator and made sure the pin wasn't bent and I also Checked the Port the vacuum is coming from and it was reading about 20 on the Vacuum Guage. At this point I am a little beyond my abilities and was wondering if anyone had the Cure to this problem Short of Pulling it and having it Rebuilt. Thanks in Advance for any help with this problem...
Are you saying see if the Vacuum goes away when Im Driving it? I actually had a guy tell me to get the Truck going Backwards really fast and then throw it into Drive while still moving backwards and that will fix my problem. So as the Vacuum increases to a point it should shift when its high?
Yes, see what the vacuum is doing when you drive it.
The vacuum is the input to one side of a valve in the valve body. Pressure from the governor is the other input. When governor pressure and vacuum gets to the calibrated shift point it shifts. Higher vacuum will make it shift sooner. If you lose the vacuum signal it will shift at maximum RPM.
