Question Tire Brand

I know there has been a lot of discussion on tires in these threads, and it really boils down to personal opinion and what one wants to spend, but I'd like your thoughts on what has been a good tire for you. My daily driving consists of dirt roads and highway travel. I need a good all-terrain tire, that does well on rocky, rutted, and muddy roads and that handles well on the highway, load range E, and I do tow a camper. I typically have been running BFGs but I have noticed a trend. The sidewalls have been cracking, and splitting. Matter of fact I noticed it this weekend and I have a pretty good split on my front drivers tire, and I have no idea how long it has been like that. This is the second time this has occurred. My last set of BFGs did the same thing, at the time I didn't think much of it, and chalked it up as a fluke. Well, it's happened again. So my confidence in this brand is being tarnished. I'd like to know what you all have had good luck with on your trucks. I have a larger size tire 315/75/R16, and they can get pretty pricey. I'd like to find something for under 900, if possible. Just the thought of it makes me sick.

Cooper has been a great brand for our family on our vehicles. I currently run ST MAXX on the truck and an AT on our Subaru. Both of them perform great in any condition we subject them to. The Subaru was trudging through waste deep snow in the mountains of ID this past November. The truck must go up and down a steep incline covered in grass each way in order to be used. I just moved the truck this morning and with 4x4 working in LOW gear, the tires do not slip at all and just go up at an idle speed.

The Cooper tires have never let us down regarding traction, not yet anyway. Most of our traveling is road surface with some mountain gravel roads. But everytime I use the truck, it must go down and then up a steep and somewhat long hill that is covered in moss and grass. The ST MAXX are pretty quiet rolling down the interstate at 65 MPH with the 5th wheel in tow as well. I really am impressed with them and bought them on recommendation from my brother who has been running them for many years.

Although, Colorado350 has had great experience with Falken AT3W tires in CO on his 2WD dually. I may not stray from the Cooper brand when it comes time to replace the tires on the truck, but I will seriously consider the Falken brand before hitting the "buy now" button.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to keep it in mind for sure. I'd like to get a few more comments and see what others have had good luck with. I've seen a lot of Falken tires on trucks around here as well, just don't know much about them.

By far I'm very impressed with the Toyo M55's, expensive but worth it. My old work truck still has 2 of those tires with over 65k on them and still have some thread left.

I should have included the thread by Colorado350 earlier, my mistake... I have pasted it below.

I have been disappointed in BFG's too many times over the years. My last set were terrible in the rain. BFG All Terrains KO2's. I don't daily mine as much as I used to, maybe 6K miles a year compared to 18- 20K a year for many years but I just got an off brand with a little more aggressive tread from Amazon. They are Cavalry brand, in an E rating. I got them back in November and have about 2,000 on them since then. I plow and have a V-spreader, occasionally tow, but not like I used to. I am very happy so far with them and the price was great!! I have paid almost as much for 2 BFG's in the past as I have for all 4 of these tires. The one thing I will say is they seem a little smaller than advertised, and my speedo agrees with me. I bought them in a 305, they look more like a 295. They look aggressive but are smooth and quiet on the highway. I drive fast and they run nice even at 80MPH. They might be what you are looking for.

Currently I have some toyo at2s on my rig with about 43k miles on them. All of the tires are worn a little bit more on the outside, and one tire is worn noticeably more than the other 3. Granted, my front end wasn't totally in line for the majority of the life of the tires. Even though I could probably get 5-10k more miles out of them, I'll be replacing them shortly because they're making quite a bit of noise compared to when they were new. Like enough noise that I hear tires way more than engine noise.

I'm leaning towards the cooper at3 xlt when I do decide on tires, and I plan on going with a 295/75/16. You might consider that size since its in between a 285/75/16 and a 315/75/16, and they're a little cheaper than a 315/75/16.

Goodyear Duratrac. Pretty good all round tire. I'm kind of old school and run the 235/85.

Recently bought my first set of Cooper at3 xlt for the 250. Few thousand miles into it but way more satisfied with the ride, wear, and quietness of the coopers vs the last few sets of BFG AT and most recently bfg "comercial" .. Those were a waste of dollars.

I’m running a set of Toyo CT’s on my work pickup and I drive a lot of gravel/dirt roads and some highway and so far so good. They drive nice and have a little road noise at speed. If I had to say how much I would say between a Michelin LTX and Goodyear duratrac. I only have about 5,000 miles on them so time will tell on wear. But very happy so far. On my other tow rig which gets more highway miles I went with the firestone transforce at2’s. I love them for the application I use them for. Very very quiet and ride excellent. Good traction on the ice/snow packed roads in my area.

Another Cooper at3 fan here. Got a hell of a deal on the older model when they rolled out the new sidewall design on them. I'm also eyeing the Falkens when the time comes. I'll probably go with whichever is cheaper by then.

We run coopers in my house. It's hard to go wrong with any of the AT3s. We just put a set of AT3+4 on my wifes grand cherokee... she's not impressed by them but doesn't really have any complaints.
I ran a set of hankook ATMs on my Cummins. They were my favorite tires on that truck. I was around 600hp/1200tq and those tires gripped! I convinced a friend of mine to run them on his 5.0 ranger and he agreed. They're worth looking into, I never had a problem with them.

Milsurp BFGoodrich Baja T/A tires bought off of eBay have been working great for me. They're starting to get expensive now though.

By far my favorite tire ever. But, just not worth over $400 each for my size. 255/85/16.

I’m on my 2nd set of Cooper ST MAXX now and I’ll probably by them again.

I’ve put a bunch of Cooper AT3’s on these trucks too. 50k mile tread warranty and also a smooth and quiet tire. These are 285/75/16’s.

I'll testify to the Falken AT3's as well. I was running AT Mickey Thompson's prior to these, and I too got tired of all the noise. Mickey Thompson 325/65/18's were $400 a piece, and I paid $265 ea for the Falkens at Discount tire. I've been running these tires since March of last year, and I absolutely love them.
Falken AT3 325X65x18

Mickey Thompson 325X65X18.
