What Does The Engine Heater Plug-In Do Really?
Does it glow the glow plugs all night or is it a heater element in the oil pan?
Just wondering what the effects are if that stays plugged in for long duration.
Would it hurt the truck somehow long term if it stayed plugged in?
It does not control the Glow Plugs.
It does not keep your Batteries charged.
The block heater does not warm the engine oil,
To warm the oil you will need a separate Oil Pan Heater.
It won`t hurt anything long term to leave the Block heater on,
Just run up your electric bill a bit more ea month. I draws a 1000 watts.
You can have it on a timer to come on 3 hrs or so before you
need to start the engine.
Using the Block Heater, the engine will start w/o the use of the GP`s.
Mine is set up manual, turn key..and boom she starts.

Thank you for the knowledge brother.
now.
as Charlie said though, it will not hurt anything but your wallet to leave it plugged in overnight.
i have mine on a remote switch.
2 hours before going out i get up and the first thing i do is turn the switch on when it is cold.
the only time i turn it on when going to bed is if i know i will be called out early morning to plow snow.
