I plug in the extension chord everynight before work and in the morning before start up, she takes forever to turn over. I've heard that a glow plug heater should be ready @ all times when plugged in. When I turn my ignition on I still get a 'wait to start' light that stays on quite a long time. Any diagnostic's that you can think of?
Are you confusing Glow plugs with the block heater? They are two different things.
Test your glow plug relay to be sure it is functioning then test your glow plugs themselves. This will tell you if glow plug system is working , which is responsible for initiating the combustion sequence upon start up.
Your block heater is what you plug in. This warms up the engine oil so that at startup, it will turn over easier and warm up to operating temp quicker.
Your glow plugs are not powered by the extension cord in any way.

Thanks for the advice. I made a mistake with my previous post. It is the block heater, and I am quite sure that it is not working properly! I will do some research to test the situation. Thanks.
Charlie I just fixed mine tonight. I did a continuity test and got nothing , I then went to the block heater above the oil filter and unplugged it. I did the same test on the two prongs at the heater unit and did have continuity there, so the wire was bad. I called the dealer and it was 61.80 to replace the cord. So I hooked all back up did the same teat and nothing so then I went just beyond the plug end that is near my fog lamps and pierced the black coating and did a continuty test again it worked ( has to hooked to the heater to work too). So basically my plug end was bad. I spliced a new end on and saved 60.00 and I am in business.
