My smog pump makes an annoying noise and probably sucks up a couple of horsepower, so I just want to buy a shorter belt and ditch the whole pump, but will this mess up anything on my motor as far as 02 sensor and such?
A friend of mine claimed that he saw a smog pump rigged up as a redneck supercharger, would this actually work? I know if I did that I would need to put a air breather on it, but that is no hill for a tall stepper like me.
Dont know about the redneck super charger, Id think it would be more trouble than it would be worth. but definatly lose it (unless you have to deal with the evil smog *****)
Nope no smog ****'s here. I had 1 guy ever even check to see if I had catalitic converters, and he didn't look very well, because I pulled mine out, but he didn't notice that.
i hooked all my emitions stuff back up and am getting a smoother ride, engine idles A LOT smoother, the cruise works a lot better and i am getting an extra 2 mpg
I just put everything (smog on a truck that had been removed) To get inspected. And it actually ran better with it in place. Some MPG improvement. But from what I have read if they are quite the HP drain is minimal . And they are tied into system EMC ,sensors ETC. Yes you can remove them but I won't any more.
The air injection system can be eliminated without negatively affecting the operation of the motor, but it's more involved than just bypassing the pump. All the associated plumbing has to be removed and the ports at the back of the heads plugged. Then the vacuum lines that feed the diverter valves should be removed and the lines plugged at the solenoids, which should remain in place and connected to keep the computer happy. If these 2 steps are not done there will be operational problems caused by the exhaust leak upstream of the O2 sensor and the vacuum leaks.
i removed the smog pump of my truck and it didn't run much.. better and didn't effect my gas milage at all but it did however clean up my engine compartment alot!
if I didn't have to deal with the smog ****'s here in Phoenix, i would like to rip out all of that air injection crap.. such a pain in the butt to get around those tubes going into my exhuast manifolds while changing spark plugs
