Well I was more or less joking around, but now you got me thinking! If only I knew for sure what each code meant!
LOL so was I
I would not sweat that they don't match each other or title VIN.
Heck the title may not match anything then where will you be?
As long as the paper title is good that is all that counts as no one looked at my truck only the title when I got the plate.
I was kind of shocked it did not even need a safety check.
Back in CT anything over 10 years or from out of state need a safety & VIN check before a plate is issued.

My 66 Mustang was a huge ordeal. The title was in my name since 1992, but it was a Louisiana title. Sat on jackstands in my garage for 15 years. When I went to go get a plate for it, they would not honor my title because it was from out of state and not on the road for many years. So they had to assign it to a special group from the DMV and he came out to look it over, and because of a previous crash repair the inner fender was from a donor car and did not match the title. So I had to remove the fender in order for him to see the hidden VIN, and once that proved everything was fine, they assigned me a new VIN and stuck that on my fender! Took at least 3 months for this process.

Oh man don't say that!
My Javelin I have had for close to 30+ years, title never in my name or my brothers name who I got the car from, but do have a signed title & bill of sale as that was what CT DMV needed.
Because of the age up in CT DMV would need to do a safety & the VIN check like your Mustang had done.
I can just think what I am going to have to go thru down here when the time comes.
I don't have a title for the Gremlin as CT does not hand them out of older cars & trucks when I had it on the road.
Guess that would be a night mare to get plated down here.

You got me thinking with the stamps. Why not make your own tags that say whatever you want? Maybe an inside joke or something? That way if anyone ever notices it at a car show(honestly who's going to study it that hard?) you'll both get a laugh.
Dave if the car is at a disassembled point to where the hidden VIN plates can be easily seen, then it might be a good time to start on the process! I had the guys business card, from the DMV down there in Four Oaks on 301, but I gave it to someone at a car show who was talking to me about having the same trouble!

KramerCD I like that idea!
I don't remember where the other VIN is stamped.
I also think because the hidden VIN did not match caused a lot of the trouble, none of that on my car has been messed with.
I am far from worrying about it right now.

Code my anniversary, to impress my wife with my memory skills!
You better get a witness and a fact checker to help, if you mis remember or grab the wrong punch... she'd for sure be the first to know, that's all I'm saying.
Ok I got another tag off this truck, this one connected to the front bed support crossmember. It's a little hard to read, but I took pics from 2 slightly different angles and between the 2 you can mostly make it out. 129 F10CNA10251 22 5C ??? 9AT 19K 2 129 F10CN 10261 22 5G 17 3AT 19K
This is a "Buck Tag" used by assembly line workers to assure the correct parts are installed that match the build sheet. Most of the codes cannot be decoded.
1981 and later FoMoCo vehicles have a 17 digit VIN .. The 3rd digit of the BODY code defines what type of "back of cab equipment" a truck has.
