Hey KramerCD the replacement windshield has a black strip with the opening in the wrong spot, so it hides the VIN plate from view! But if it is a cab swap then that means the VIN on the cab doesn't match the VIN on the title, I am guessing?

That's correct. My truck has a replacement windshield that's the same way, I can still read the vin. Can't remember if I have to try and read it from the inside or outside the windshield, and it's not real easy, but it's do able.
I guess the most unexpected things from my point of view is that the truck was originally a flareside, and was originally a V8. However it doesn't show any data for the color code. I'm completely lost, I was looking at colors yesterday and made a list of all the possible ones I thought it could be, now I go looking for an aeresol can so I can buy the one I think is most likely and test it out, and guess what - Ford uses the same name half a dozen times and its a different shade of blue each time.
John, where did you get this from as I have not seen it before, got a link?
You are right on the name but different color thru the years but you can remove the ones that are not for a 1983 truck and have less to pick from or get lucky and have the 1
I was looking at the buck tag under the hood and at Gary's site to see if any of the numbers matched a color code for the blues and for the year of the truck.
The blue you listed the other day looks to be a 1985+ color and the code was not on the tag.
Think you are on the right track on getting what you think it is in a spray can for testing and go from there.

Well the title I VIN can match even with a cab swap but would not match the frame VIN.
Where was this frame VIN stamped? I know the right rail would it be any where between the shock tower & just under the cab floor?
Now a little rain in this, the title is for a flare side but as I pointed out no plates at the rear cab corners that seams strange.
I guess when we go swapping the glass we will know what the cab VIN really is LOL.
Have you run the VIN for the parts truck thru that link you posted to see what is started as?
It was hard to read the sticker in the door wonder what the title has.

I've seen shops throw away the Flareside filler plates when they install new cab corners. That empty hole stands out to us Flareside purists...ha!
So if the filler plates are missing, then either the cab was swapped, or the cab corners were replaced imho.
The factory filler plates do not properly fit the replacement cab corner panels. I had to have new ones made to fit the corners.
Yeah, frame stamped right side between the mounts. I've got my cab back on now so it would be hard to verify, maybe I have old photos that show the location better. But it's at the rear, pretty sure on the incline where the frame starts to climb.

I don't remember if the corners were replaced or not as I don't think I looked that close.
You are right on how they fit the replacement panels as I had to rework mine a little but was not that bad to make new ones.

I thought it was some where over there. For me I would like to know that the paper (title) in hand matches either the cab or the frame or both like it should. I am sure he will get to the bottom of this at some point.
Now I know the DMV down here did not check any of that on my 81 when I got the plate and that shocked me. In CT you have to have it checked before you get plates.

The first truck I registered they verified the VIN through the window, checked the odometer and went over all the paperwork and made sure it was insured. This last time they didn't do anything at all, didn't even check to see if I had a license lol
Dave, that came from the VIN decoder on this site. https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/vindecoder.php
By the way that tag under the hood, on the cowl, has a 7H on it, and that paint code "Bright Regatta Blue Metallic" looks to be a good match for the color in the door jambs.
I did run the VIN for parts truck as well, it says 3.8 engine and not much else, did not say flareside.
Thanks for that tip Number Dummy!
KramerCD the glass is also fogged there, I tried this morning to jab a cleaning wipe in but it's still foggy, so it must be the glass itself, not just funk. We have plans to pull the dash out in the next couple of weeks so I'll be able to see for sure then.
Rembrant this truck has rusted cab corners and came with some replacement panels that I will have to weld in later. So it doesn't appear that this job has been done. It's still a mystery at this point, whether the cab and frame came from different trucks or not.
I think the vin is going to be different, or they swapped tags as well. Does the firewall body tag still have the factory welds on it? Odd that the glass is just fogged, is it just that one area? Makes you wonder if it was a pro job lol, you sure have an interesting one. I love a good mystery.

What are the welds you talk of?
I don't remember any welds on either tag, cab or bed, both held on with a screw.
On the glass, know how old glass gets that white fog around the edges this is starting to get that. It also has some rock chips / stars so needs to be replaced. Think the plan is to use the one from the parts truck as it is the right one for the VIN, that is if we can get it out.

I don't have the cowl off the donor yet, so that end is still hidden. The one on my truck bed was welded on. Assumed they all were.
They would most likely have been riveted, I would think. Take pics when you get yours apart. I can move mine around, so it's either screwed or riveted.
