Ok I got another tag off this truck, this one connected to the front bed support crossmember. It's a little hard to read, but I took pics from 2 slightly different angles and between the 2 you can mostly make it out. 129 F10CNA10251 22 5C ??? 9AT 19K 2 129 F10CN 10261 22 5G 17 3AT 19K
I don't think any of the numbers on that tag are related to the VIN. The VIN should start "1FTC" I think. I know it's not 17 digits so when I try to put it into the decoder it says not valid.
Are any of the numbers on that tag a paint code?
If 5G is a paint code, it stands for "Dark Caramel" (1981-1983)
If 5C is a paint code, it stands for "Dark Cadet Blue Metallic" (1983). This one is actually pretty similar to the 7H color that is in the door jambs.

I just checked my '84 Flareside, and the tag on mine has the last 6 digits of the VIN on it. It has 15A46591, with the A46591 being from the VIN, and I assume the 15 is for F150.
The only other number I recognize on mine is the "3P" for the paint code. It also says "83 box". My truck is an '84, but it was built in 1983.
Lots and lots of these trucks have had the cabs and beds changed, so it's not that unusual this far along.

Ok gotcha, so the A10251 on mine would match the VIN on the original truck, presumably. The 3P paint code on yours, was it in the same place as the 5C on mine - first 2 digits of second row?

Mine is configured a little differently. I can't get a clear picture of the whole thing as part of it is tucked under the edge of the cowl panel.

Are you saying that because the cab tag is "F15" and the bed tag "F10"?
The VIN print out has the cab as F100 so why the F15 on the cab tag?
Oh I also see the title VIN does not match either tag
I still like to see what the frame stamping and window VIN is, not that it make a difference.
Now I wonder what my tags say as I put them back on the cab & bed from my truck. Think I also have the parts truck tags in a bin some where.

That and the sequence number being different. So the bed, cab, and registered vin all came from different trucks. I checked all of mine that I could find. My bed was original. Had large paint numbers across the end of the bed that looked like salvage yard stock numbers, but maybe they were factory? Because the bed tag matches the vin. Didn't have a cowl tag. But the donor did and it matches the vin.

I just went back and rechecked and did see what you posted on the VIN not on any of the tags.
John being you need to pull the dash pad to swap dashes if it is ok I would like to pull it, bagging the screws I will bring the baggies & marker, and see if we can see the VIN on the dash the next time I am over.
We will get to the bottom of this one way or the other
