I may need to replace the Headlamp Switch on my 2006 Ford Escape, I'm seeing with and with out Auto Headlights, My understanding Auto Headlights is turning on headlights when the wipers are on? is that correct?

Selecting AUTO on the switch and the lights will come on at night by themselves.

 

What is going on, I'm getting the headlight on beeping when opening the doors. After I've been driving with the headlights on.

 

I'm going to check it for codes tomorrow, my car inspection is in 60 days.
