Would like to service the blower motor as it squeals like a pig sometimes when turning on as well as make sure mice have not used the box as a homestead in the past. Assuming the A/C evaporator & Heater core box needs removed from engine side firewall and it appears like a larger project than first anticipated. Looks like some bolts are from engine side and some from inside and the top inside one does not appear accessible without major duct removal.......? Can someone please give me a basic idea of what all is involved? Thank ye kindly!
Yes that helps! Thanks for link. I tried searching but didn't think to search heater core. So it looks like "maybe" I can access it from under the dash without removing the box on the engine side.
...... It pained me to replace the original brass/copper heater core (for an aluminum replacement) as preventive measure but figured age was not on my side considering the amount of work to access it.
I robbed two carcasses of thier AC parts in 1986 to put AC in m,y '77, one was a '73, one was a '79. With low pressure, the '79 one blew bubbles in a water bucket, but the '73 one did not. The '73 one lives on even today. I know it is copper, but I forgot long ago what the '79 one was. I did use a new condenser core and reciever dryer.
Wow great link containing the 79 F100 link also that has more pics. I am now armed ready for battle. I have time so will go through inside and won't be cutting the blower cover off for access.
Thanks again for the response.
Following up incase anyone references this post in future. The links really helped. I accessed the blower from inside cab and it wasn't that bad for me. I'd never consider accessing it from engine side. Had it out in about 2 hours and 45 minutes. I did choose to disconnect and remove the evaporator completely rather than swivel it up and tie out of the way. I think that helped by creating better access. I'm going to revive the A/C system so having the evap out makes it easier for me to flush it. It pained me to replace the original brass/copper heater core (for an aluminum replacement) as preventive measure but figured age was not on my side considering the amount of work to access it.
Probably should have seen this earlier to note: if you cut the wires and insert crimp-on bullet connectors where the fan wires loop outside the housing by the switch, you can reverse the fan direction just be swapping connectors. May save you some grief if down the road you decide to reverse the motor and fail to test its direction prior to install.
