I have a 2018 with the rapid heat and a 2019 without the rapid heat, both diesels, and they both produce heat appropriately at the same point on my commute.

I've been told they won't install after the fact. They'd have to remove the entire dash to get at it.

My last Super Duty Diesel had the "Rapid Heat" option and it was the biggest wast of money. As you'll see on the forums, your better off starting your truck, let it idle for 30 seconds to a minute and then give it some light throttle to get the boost up some and it will heat up much faster like this.

When I was planning to order a truck, the selection of supplemental heat defaulted over to dual alternators. In regards to supplemental heat, you may have better luck with a high-idle mod.

Around here cold is below 50 and it doesn't warm the cab up all toasty but it also doesn't blast cold *** air at you for several miles till it gets decently warm. It needs to be off dual zone and turned to HI for it to work.. It also seems to me that it gets the heater decently warm Faster, to me this trucks heater warms up fast for a diesel.

Thats the benefit. I specifically ordered a truck because I wanted this and 5th wheel prep, those options were absolutely not available on any new truck within 500 miles.

Its not possible to install after purchase without a lot of parts and tearing the truck apart. You also need the dual alternators. Just not worth jacking with.

I have it and since December 2010 I couldn't tell you if it works or not. My guess is not really worth the money. Remote start works better, plus it heats the seats.

The 397Amp alternator was what I really wanted to charge batteries in my truck camper while running
You will be disappointed if you think that the alternators will do much back at the trailer plug, just doesn't work that way.
If you need a lot a power at the 7 pin an option to consider is a 12 volt DC / 12 volt DC converter. About a $400-$450 item that that will give you 30-40 amps at the RV

Or take full advantage of the dual alts and run a pair of #2 copper wires to the bed or the rear bumper, use an Andersen Connector or Phillips Lift Gate plug assembly, and charge camper or trailer batts at up to 100 amp and up to 14.1v. I have done this on two Super Duty trucks now and it works great. First was a 2006 and now my 2016.

The 7 pin is good for keeping break-away batteries charged-up and thats about it.

I wanted this option, and researched before buying the truck to see if it can be installed later on. It appeared the answer was no, so I bought the truck with it.

In my experience, it does work very well, with caveats. I have manual climate control, and if I just leave it set at my default level - 2 speed at foot, or 1-2 speed split between foot and dash, I barely notice it. However, if I set it to high speed at dash level, it blows warm air within minute, and hot in about 2-3 minutes. That's with outside temperature below freezing. I am glad I have it.

I have a 2/0 from the starter lug and block to an Anderson at the bumper.

I checked the manual, doesn't say anything about it I could find. But doesn't seem like it does much til the engine warms up.

rapid heat works really well. The problem is people expectation of it.

What it does is blow warmer air than -20 air. It's just enough to defrost the windshield. You'll still feel cold air.

You must live in a really cold climate to take advantage of it.

It's not meant to heat the cab at all.....

So I drive 2 trucks often. The difference in the diesel with this heater is that once the temperature needle comes up a tad, within a mile or so, you start getting luke warm air.

On my gas it wont give luke warm air till it gets a little warmer.

The main difference is the gas goes from Luke warm to hot rather fast.

The diesel with the supplemental will stay luke warm and gradually warm up much slower.

So it does work. Like it says it’s supplemental and it helps, its worth the $250.
