Shock Upper and Lower Nut

I read through several shock threads and did not see this mentioned. I am planning on replacing my OEM shocks on the 19 this weekend; however, the service manual directs you to discard the upper nut, washer, bushing assembly, lower bolt and flagnut from the front shocks. Additionally, it directs you to discard the lower nut, bolt, and upper nut from the rear shock.

For the folks that have done this swap, are you reusing these bolts and nuts or getting new ones? Obviously, I will replace any that are provided with the new shock but if the new shock does not provide all these items, are you just using the old ones?

Some of these nuts are crimp nuts. They have a dent on one of the flats which deforms the nut slightly. Making them more or less a single use nut. They can be re threaded but they lose the lock nut factor.
That said, I dont know that is the case. I dont know why they dont supply new hardware with the shocks. Considering how long the shocks will remain in place I prefer to replace the top nuts on the fronts. The others are usually bigger grade 5 or better nuts and bolts.

The shocks are scheduled to be here tomorrow so I will see what I need. I will get under the truck sometime tomorrow and have a look. I know many service manuals have you discard nuts if they originally had loctite on them and many folks just reapply some loctite and use them again without issue.

Most of us are reusing the OEM hardware. I didn't use any Loctite on mine and torqued them to the service manual specs.

I installed the rear shocks tonight and will get the fronts on tomorrow. I used all the nuts and bolts as the Fox shocks do not provide any hardware. When I put the socket on the top nut on the drivers side it turned easily and was obviously not torqued to spec. Once I had the OEM shock off, I could compress the shock with little effort by hand. I could not do this with the Fox shock and used one of my floor jacks to compress it so I could bolt it back on.

On a side note for those planning on doing this, the top nut is metric and the bottom is standard. At least that is how it is on mine. You torque the top nut at 52 ft lbs and the bottom at 111 ft lbs.
