Ok I am going to sounds like a fool, but here it goes..
'97 f150 rear shocks
The top nut when I am trying to loosen it, it just moves the entire assembly that goes into the shock. I would guess that if I had an air ratchet this would not be a problem. How do you guys remove the upper nut? I was going to try vice grips but thought there might be a better way?
And feel free to make fun of me I'd just like to get some new shocks on my rig.
If you're not going to reuse the shock it's ok to use Vise-Grips on it.
If you remove the bottom shock bolts first you can pivot the shock down to make it easier to access the top nut too.
If you were going to reuse them, the top of the threaded shaft usually has two flat sides which you can hold with a wrench while using another wrench to remove the nut. A real pain in the you know where to do, but it can be done. Sometimes just loosening them a bit like this is enough and you won't need to hold it to remove the nut the rest of the way.
