I am trying to replace the shocks on my 03 f 250. I got all of them done except the right rear.
If you look at the rear shock, the lower part of the shock has a bolt and nut that go through two tabs and the shock. The upper part of the shock mounts over a stud and is held in place with a nut. The previous owner must have stripped out the nut when putting the shocks on, now I cant remove the nut to get the shock off.
Any suggestions on how to get the stripped nut off the stud, and what to do when I get it off to mount the new shock on .
You've got to hold the 'stud' with pliers or a wrench, otherwise the shock shaft just spins when you attempt to loosen the nut. If you can see the top of the stud/shaft, above the nut and threads, there should be a threadless portion with a flat spot on either side. This spot is meant for a small open ended wrench, adjustable, or vice grips. Or since you are replacing the shocks anyways, you could always just grab the shock shaft itself with vicegrips.
That is not the type of shocks that I have. The shocks I have are the type that have eyes on both ends. The bottom eye mounts between two tabs on the axle housing, the top eye slides over a stub shaft mounted to the frame rail, you slide the eye over this stud and hold it on the frame with a nut, this nut is what is the problem.
