Hydroboost conversions

I’m in the middle of doing the hydroboost conversion on my 79 f350 flatbed, is there something that is supposed to go between the master cylinder and the booster? There was a rod sticking out of the back of the vacuum booster, and thought it was odd there isn’t one in the booster... any help/pics are greatly appreciated

yes there’s a rod and clip to hold it in. On the hydro boost. If you bought a remanufactured one they don’t come with it. I found out the hard way.

That rod that sticks out of the booster is a specific length to match the master that the factory intended to be mated with it. I tried tried mating the old master to my hydro unit, but had to mod a rod to fit. I also had to slot the mounting holes. After reading where a member had his master launch from his hydro, I never felt 100% secure with my old master mated to my hydro, and the rod that I modified to activate the master. Finally, I splurged and spent $50 and bought a master designed to mate with my year/model hydro. I now feel completely safe when I hit the brakes.

If you need to do any replumbing of the brake lines, look into the nickel/copper brake lines. I found them a joy to work with when compared to the steel lines!

I also found that having dual return lines all the way to the p/s pump helped with performance, as did the Saginaw pump. With the oem p/s pump and a T into one single return, I would loose power to the steering in parking lots when I was on brakes and steering simultaneously. I also used a simple screw **** type proportioning valve, as seen with the dark blue ****.

79 F250 hydroboost

79 F250 Master cylinder, 2001 F250 hydroboost and PS pump. Pirtek hoses to mate metric and standard. Redrilled stock booster brackets. Brake peddle sits a little lower. Ps pump was bolt on. Master was bolt on. Stops my truck on 37” tires quick😁

Hydro boost

I had to end up making the rod between the booster and MC to get the gap right so that the MC would fully retract.
I guess it is not exactly right as I can feel a slight nudge if I an going slow in a parking lot when I tap the brake while turning the wheel.

It looks easy after it was finished
