I have 12x3" rear drums (F250) and dual pistion calipers up front I currently have a F150 master cylinder (brake) on it now I want it to be a wiiiiii better stopping as I'm building it to pull. Would it be better to use a F250 master or a or a F350 SRW from O'reily's my truck is a 78 and my axles are 74 it that matters any
thanks
Dustin
Maybe that to but I was asking about the master cylinder but thanks i'll put the booster on my list. Can I use a booster off a junk yard truck or will it crap out on me?
They are expensive I looked in LMC truck and they are $300-400 ouch!
The MC won't make that much difference. The booster is where the power comes from. I would not junk yard one, just get it from your local parts store. I got mine from Napa. The MC/booster combo was around $125
My 79F150 used the 78 style F350 booster.
Here is a good article on the switcheroo.
If you are gonna do the swap, do it right and get the booster AND master cylinder. They are matched parts. If you put a F-350 booster on, you may need to go to the junkyard and pick up the proper brackets that mount the unit to the firewall, as they are different from truck-to-truck.
But before you do any of that, read the article by Danny Cabral in the Tech section, he discusses the change over in detail.
