It seems every time someone posts about clutch problems, they have that style of clutch. Where did you get it? Any chance of a no-cost, full refund, or would you have to ship it back?

If you have it out, can you see where the fingers are marked up? How much would you have to grind off? The very tips aren't usually in contact with the release bearing anyway.

You can see the wear from grinding on the left finger. Can I just round them a bit? The old pp with screw adjusters were more rounded. The new fingers are maybe a 1/16 on an inch longer?

I don't think rounding them will help, but it appears there's quite a bit that could be ground off without any harm. I believe the initial contact area for the release bearing is already showing on the fingers (arrows). As you press further on the clutch, the point of contact moves further inwards on the fingers. I wouldn't cut them more than needed. I would think the underside hits the tube first? Maybe try bevelling the underside edges first?

Yes, I think you are right, where your arrows are should be what contacts the throw out bearing. Way out on the end, you can see where the grinding occured. I'm thinking I need to take some off there. Hopefully I can do it evenly.

Was the original bearing any different? Is this the correct bearing?

I don't have the old one, I think I threw it away. I beveled the bottom tips of the release fingers on the pressure plate and took some off of the front edge. After wrestling the 4 speed for most of the morning, by myself, I finally got it lined up. When I depressed the pedal it still sparked and made a grinding noise but not as bad as before. Not wanting to wrestle the beast in and out again I forced the pedal down a couple more times and the grinding all but went away. I must have had a high spot that needed to get smoothed down. Just need to put in a new gas tank and I can try driving it. Can't wait!

Keep in mind that as the clutch heats up, those fingers will grow. Might want to take a bit more off to be sure.

Are you using an engine hoist to wrestle the 4-sp in/out? Works great, thru the passenger door, and a sling around the trans.

Good point about heating up. I have a scissors lift type trans jack from harbor freight, not the most sturdy as it extends.
